Usually, I don't write about The Voice because it's a show that I like, but I know that most of my recaps would be about who I like and which performances I enjoyed in spite of my total lack of musical knowledge, so I just don't bother. That said, the Top 12 performers of Season 3 were revealed, and there were a few shockers to say the least.
Before I get to my reactions, I wanted to highlight the last second and completely knee-jerk predictions that I made of Twitter:
Team Adam: Amanda Brown, Bryan Keith and Melanie Martinez
Amanda clearly has the powerhouse voice, and her performance of "Dream On" was a highlight so far. There's something accessible about Bryan, and I can understand why America would push him through and why Adam would want to keep him around. Melanie's by far one of my favorites even though I can see the rest of the country not being on the same wavelength as her.
Team Blake: Liz Davis, Terry McDermott and Cassadee Pope
Blake's been saying how much he wants to take a country artist to the Finals, so that pretty much cemented Liz as a part of his top three in my mind. Terry's been one of the strongest competators since the jump, but I wonder how young voters would react to a Scottish rocker. Cassadee's got the look and experience to go far, but that could work against her.
Team Cee Lo: Cody Belew, Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte
Cody's probably not the most polished performer of the bunch, but he has style and swag that could win a lot of people over. Nicholas David's just a pimp and I want him to go far, but it's a shame that he's on the same team as Hunte who pretty much won the competition during the earlier rounds.
Team Christina: De'Borah, Dez Duron and Sylvia Yacoub
Honestly, Team Christina bores me to tears aside from De'Borah. Aguilera's been eye-humping Duron since Season 2, so there's no way he's going home (especially since the girls love him too), and Yacoub's the only standout amongst the rest of X-tina's pop princesses (and even that's a stretch).
Nobody care's about any of the performances or Christina Milian's painful promotion of Sprint, let's just get to the naming of the Top 12.
My predictions held up fairly well early on as Team Adam was whittled down to three. America's vote saved Amanda Brown and Bryan Keith which were no-brainers. I had faith that Levine would appreciate Martinez's talent more than the voters, and I was right. While I don't think Team Adam's as strong as it's been in the past, it could still make a play for the title especially if Amanda makes it to the Finals.
Team Blake was up next, and this was when things got interesting. America's vote put Terry and Cassadee into the next round, and I was surprised that they were the top two. I had a feeling Terry would be able to make some noise, but I was sure Cassadee was going to have to be saved by Blake. Instead, the CMA Entertainer of the Year went with Michaela Paige over Liz Davis and El Mariachi. The only reason I was shocked was because of Blake's insistence on bringing country to the finals, but I was happy that he saved who he saved. I can see any of these three making it to the Finals, but deep down I'm pulling for Terry.
It was time for Team X-tina's top three. The first two saved were Dez and Sylvia which really wasn't unexpected since its obvious that young girls love the cute boys on these kind of shows, although I did think that Sylvia was going to have to be a coach's pick. Instead of going with the logical choice of De'Borah, Christina picked Adriana Louise who was one of the other pop girls who made zero impact on me, which meant she essentially sabotaged herself from winning The Voice two years in a row. Last year, I thought that her cutting Jesse Campbell was dumb, but it pales in comparison to her not going with De'Borah. At this point, I don't care who makes it to the Finals from Team X-tina, and I just hope Shakira is committed to winning this thing.
Finally, it was Team Cee Lo's turn to name a top three which made sense since the show wants Trevin Hunte to win hence he's always involved in the final moments. Speaking of Hunte, he was voted in by America along with Nicholas David. Now, I was pleasantly surprised that David got the votes because he clearly doesn't look like Dez, and I'm happy that he got in based on talent. T'hat's not to say that he's not a good looking dude, he's just not boyband material. That left one spot open, and Cee Lo wisely went with Cody Belew over Harry Beiber (aka MacKenzie Bourg) and Diego Val. There's only one clear choice for the finalist representing Team Cee Lo and that's Trevin.
So, my Final Four's looking like this: Amanda Brown from Team Adam, Terry McDermott from Team Blake, Trevin Hunte from Team Cee Lo and a blow-up doll from Team Christina... although I wouldn't be shocked if Dez Duron smirks his way in.
I guess 10 out of 12 isn't all that bad, and I can't be too upset since most of my favorites made it on to the Top 12 Performances. It's just going to suck not seeing De'Borah up there. Stupid Christina and her amazing rack.
