The storylines in tonight's 30 Rock weren't particularly good, but I still found myself laughing throughout the entire episode due to sheer insanity.
The highlight for me was watching Liz pretend to be pregnant to help out Jack and Avery. It was a gag that could have gotten old really fast, but Tina Fey's commitment to the bit elevated it from silly to genius. Plus, it was so gayballs that she would subject herself to such humiliation for her friend. It's the Liz/Jack relationship that makes this show work so well.
Speaking of her non-romantic soul mate, Jack's plot about his transition to a Kabletown led NBC had its moments. Seeing him squirm because the company's moved from a stiff corporate machine to a more family oriented atmosphere said a lot about the character than the actual story arc, and of course Alec Baldwin was brilliant.
The Jenna/Tracy jealousy thread felt a little stale, but when they were tacked on to Liz's fake baby farce things started to look up. I also wasn't a huge fan of Lutz once again being shoved down our throats, but there was so many great lines that they made up for his forced scenes.
"¡Qué Sorpresa!" wasn't as strong as the last two episodes, but it was still one of the funniest shows of the week. I can't believe it took me so long to start watching 30 Rock, but I'm glad that I'm no longer missing out on the show's brilliance.
