The new fall TV season is just around the corner, and there has been a lot of news coming out about some of my favorite shows, and the news isn't that good in my opinion.
Let's start off with my all-time fav, Scrubs. Today I received a tweet about an interview some website had with show creator Bill Lawrence, so I totally had to read it. After I was done, I couldn't help but be confused about what the heck is going on in the world of Scrubs. From the sound of it, they're going to try to disguise a whole new show as just another season. Now, this is far from breaking news because this has been the plan from the start, but keeping the Scrubs name doesn't feel right, and I'm afraid of what the fallout is going to be like.
I'm also a little worried about the new "newbies", mostly because I have no idea who these new actors are, which confuses me a little bit because I remember reading that ABC wanted at least one established actor. Whoops. Also, the way they're going to incorporate Zach Braff seems a bit off.
The thing is, I know that I'm going to watch it when it comes back at mid-season, but it will be similar to the way that you just have to look at a car accident...you can't help but be curious.
On to another one of my favorite shows that I feel is going to have an off season, How I Met Your Mother. Now, I'm not a die-hard fan of HIMYM like I am of Scrubs because I got to the game late (around the middle of season 3), but I fell in love with the first two seasons. Then the WGA Strike had to derail season 3, and in my opinion it has not recovered. The second half of S3 was lackluster at best, I'm still unhappy with most of S4, and from the looks of it I'm not going to be happy with S5 either.
My main gripe with HIMYM is due to the fact that I'm not in the whole Robin & Barney camp. I feel that the whole "relationship" angle is forced and cliché. I know a lot of fans think that they're so much a like that they should be together, but I'm just not buying it. I have a feeling that both characters are going to be hurt by this story arc, but I know that I'm probably in the minority.
Luckily, I have two returning fall shows that I'm actually excited about, The Big Bang Theory (although I'm not too keen on the idea of a Leonard/Penny romance) and Castle. Oh, and let's not forget Glee. Regardless, it looks like it's going to be slim pickings until Chuck starts up again in March.
