Another show that I'm trying to catch up on is Sci-Fi's Eureka. I remember hearing a lot of good buzz about this show when it first came out, but I never tuned in for some reason. After Pushing Daisies was axed by ABC, I had to fill the void with something creative so I turned to this quirky science fiction show.
I've checked out the first two seasons, and I have to admit that this is a pretty damn entertaining show. For those unfamiliar with this show, it's about a U.S. Marshall who, with his daughter, moves to a small town that is populated with geniuses working on special science projects. It may sound a little silly, but it works mostly because of the acting of Colin Ferguson who portrays Marshall/Sheriff Jack Carter. Sheriff Carter might be the most entertaining law dog on TV today because he's quick-witted, street smart, and charming.
The show does have some mainstream appeal because at its core, Eureka is a police procedural where the characters are trying to solve scientific mysteries rather than murders. The focus on science rather than death, the quirkiness of the town, and the kooky characters make this show fun to watch. Also, it's more family friendly than some other procedurals on TV because it isn't obsessed with death and sex. It's just good fun.
The first two seasons did a good job at establishing the characters and their dynamic with one another. I haven't seen many Season 3 episodes, but I'm excited to see what the rest of the season has in store. I'll admit that Eureka may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you like a quirky procedural drama then take some time to watch this gem.
